APRA Banking Data Monthly Statistics for December

The Australian Prudential Regulatory Authority’s (APRA) banking data for December shows that the balance of total gross loans and advances held by banks operating in Australia was A$2.54 trillion with deposits A$2.13 trillion.

The APRA Banking data shows the balances of loans currently outstanding within the Australian banking system. Australia’s big four banks, ANZ, Commonwealth Bank, National Australia Bank and Westpac have a collective loan balance of A$2.15 trillion.


Total Deposits held at Banks Operating in Australia was A$2.1 Trillion in December

The APRA Banking data shows the balances of deposits held within the Australian banking system is over A$2.1 trillion. Australia’s big four banks, ANZ, Commonwealth Bank, National Australia Bank and Westpac retained 80% of the nation’s collective deposits at $A1.63 trillion.

There are 79 banks operating in Australia as authorised deposit taking institutions. There are 43 banks that are foreign owned whilst 36 banks retain head offices in Australia.
